My AIMS Experience

My AIMS experience was a good one.  The math section and writing section was extremely easy for me.  The reading was hard, because the words were getting blurred together and it felt like they were running of the screen. It turned out I needed glasses for reading an d when I'm on the computer.  Either way I passed reading and exceeded in math and writing.  I'm glad I don't have to take it anymore!

Weekend!

This weekend was a prettybusy weekend.  On Saturday, I had the final day of the Red Mountain Tournament.  We had three games and won all of them.  This made us winners of the 'consulation bracket', which I guess is pretty good.  I didn't do to hot with my batting and I wasn't allowed to forget that!  We got home and my family from California was there to visit.  We ended up having a barbeque with them and my uncles and aunts too.  My aunts from Cali spent the night, but left at 7:30 way before I was up.  I was pretty disappointed that I didn't get to say goodbye.

Propoganda

Propoganda is a term used meaning to promote something in a big way.  Back in World War II, they used propoganda alot.

This poster was used to get people of the US to volunteerily join the army.  They used Uncle Sam as a huge propoganda figure.

Women were used alot in propoganda photos.  They were suppose to give the army men the thought that they weren't just fighting for their country, but also for their women.

Propoganda is a way to get people to want to do something, like an advertisement.

My News Station Background

Electric Device

If I could buy any electronic device, I would want one of those double computers that you can drag things from screen to screen.  They are touch screen and very high tech!  I saw them in a couple movies, so they are probably not invented yet, but when they are I definitely want one!!

News Desk Background

Making the news desk background was kind of difficult for me.  At first I was just pasting pictures from the enternet nicely on a background to make it look like a 1-dimensional set, but then my teacher showed us the other one and how it was all made by hand on photoshop.  I was in awe that something like t hat could be created using the same photoshop that I know.  I started trying to make the same background with the shading and everything and it was super difficult!  I am mediocre feeling about my news station and wish I could've made it a little better!

Adidas Futures

A while ago I tried out for the Adidas Futures softball team with my sister and my best friend.  At the end of the first tryout they said they would email everyone within the week and say whether we made it to the next round of tryouts or if we were let go.  All week I was checking my emails every 5 minutes.  This was my last chance to tryout for the team so I was really hoping to get an email telling me I was invited back.  A week past and we hadn't heard anything.  I was scared that meant we didn't make.  After a week and a couple days my sister got an email.  I was scared for her; she didn't make it, but she has another year to improve and tryout again.  I kept checking my emails but nothing yet.  We got home and I relaxed for a little then again went to check my emails.  I had a newch.  I was terrified to open it but I did.  It looked like the same email my sister got.  I was a little disappointed and I told my mom I didn't make it.  She asked to see the message and I handed it over to her.  She read it then looked at me and said, "You made it!"  I couldn't believe it!  I asked to see the message again and there it was in big bold letters: CONGRATULATIONS!  I tried not to sound to excited for the sake of my sister, so I told my mom quietly how excited I was!  I'm so thankful for making it to the next round of the tryouts.  Wish me luck!

Bruno Mars!!

Bruno Mars is my ultimate, favorite music performer!! He has such a great voice and I love all of his music, plus, he's super cute!  If I ever get the chance to go to one of his concerts, I hope I get to meet him either before or after the show.  My favorite song by him is Somewhere in Brooklyn.

If I had to pick one more favorite, definitely, without a doubt, Micheal Jackson.  I think I own about 6 of his cds, plus his greatest hits album.  I have always loved Micheal Jackson, even before his death!  I used to listen to his music all day, and my mom would have the cd on replay in her car.  I did like him better black, but black or white he was the same pop king he is today!

Let Me Tell Ya 'Bout My Best Friend

My best friends name is Taylor Hughes.  She has been my best friend for a long time!  I think I've known her for about 5 years which probably doesn't seem very long, but we already know everything about each other.  She is my best friend because she is funny and crazy and shes just like me.  We told our parents that when she goes off to college with me at ASU, (because shes a year younger), that were going to get an apartment together.  Our parents didn't think this was such a great idea!  I think me and Taylor will be friends for a long time if not ever, I cant picture me without her or vice versa!

When I have kids...

When I have kids I am definitely putting them in sports.  I am a very athletic person and I don't want my kids to be lazy couch potatoes.  If they are not athletic, then I will put them in a club they like, but I don't want my kids to do nothing.  I want them to be involved and get out and meet kids.  I would love them either way, but hopefully they are athletic because I love watching sports!

Varsity Roster

All last week my school has had softball tryouts.  Not many freshmen came out and this would mean that we would only a a JV and a Varsity team and have to make alot of cuts.  My sister was eager to make Varsity and she played her butt off!  She was hitting really good, fielding good, and her pitching was, in my opinion, messing people up, which is also very good!  Anyways, the coach said he was going to post the teams up at school Monday morning which means all weekend my sister was freaking out.  When Monday morning rolled around my sisters nerves grew even bigger!  We looked at the list and... her name was on the JV list.  Immediately tears swelled up in her eyes which made me cry!   Neither of us could understand why she hadn't made it.  All first hour I spent crying, for my sister was not going to be on my team.  She was crying almost all day because people were constantly going up to her congratulating her for making Varsity and she had to tell them she didn't.  I really really really hope my sister makes it next year!!

The Craziest Thing I've Ever Done

I'm not a real wild child so there isn't many crazy things I've done.  The craziest would probably be riding the California Screamin' roller coaster at California Adventures about 6 times.  That doesn't seem to crazy cause its really not.  It seems crazy to me cause I'm slightly afraid of heights and this thing goes upside down high up in the air.  I'm a real weenie when it comes to roller coasters so this was a huge accomplishment for me!

TED 8

Charlie Todd gave the talk.  The subject was the shared experience of absurdity.  He is an improv actor who has a organization called improveverywhere.  They go out into the city and play practical jokes on people that don't make fun of them or humiliate them in anyway, but ones that give them something to tell people and make them laugh.  One thing they did was one by one, at each stop, came onto the subway with no pants on and acted completely normal.  At the end of the 7 stops, a women gets on the train selling pants.  Another was they got a lot of people to buy blue polo shirts and cacky pants and stand around in Best Buy.  They also went into a building with 70 windows facing out toward the street and had 70 actors stand in each window and simultaneously do the same thing.  The thing Charlie loves about improv is the way it can make a persons day better or give them something to laugh about.  My impression of Charlie Todd is that he is a very funny, creative guy.  He is somebody I would be friends with!  After watching that video, I would love to get a bunch of people together and do improv acting!!

1 Thing about the Presidential Candidates of the Republican Party..

Mitt Romney- Mitt Romney is a proud Mormon, who doesn't think we need to raise taxes, just budget our spendings.  He is currently running head to head against Rick Santorum.  He is now in the lead.

Newt Gingrich- Gingrich has been part of politics for a very long time.  He helped form what the Republican Party is right now in 1994.  He has big plans to help get America out of debt.

Rick Santorum- Rick has also been a long time member of the Senate.  He was the Pennsylvania state senator and was voted into the House of Reps at age 32.  He is slowly but surely creeping up on Romney.

Ron Paul- RonPaul is a huge follower of the US Constitution, and will not do anything unless it falls under that.

Sick!

I hate being sick!  I feel like it ruins everything.  For example, I've had two tryouts this week, Saturday for the Adidas Futures Team and Monday through Friday for school ball.  I feel like because I was sick, I couldn't show of what I could really do!  I've been winded and had to start wearing my glasses so I can see the ball!  I feel like this is really bad!  Also, last night I stayed up for about half an hour, coughing.  I just hope this sickness doesn't last to much longer!!!

My Favorite Birthday Memory

My favorite birthday memory comes from either my 9th or 10th birthday.  We had just bought our first house, two stories!  My mom said me and my sister could each invite 10 friends plus cousins.  I wanted a mystery themed party so my mom and dad put together this crime/scavenger hunt for us to do.  It was amazing!  We all sat down for spaghetti and when we finished we were just at the tables talking when the last flickered on and off, it was pretty scary.  My mom told everyone that somebody had poisoned my dad's spaghetti and there were clues all around the house.  It was fun and it ended up being my babysister who did it.  That was my favorite party!!

Superbowl!!

Yesterday was Superbowl XLVI.  The Giants and Patriots were put head to head just like they did in Superbowl XLII.  The Giants once again beat the New England Patriots.  I got to watch it at my uncle's house with a bunch of other people.  They did superbowl squares and my aunt asked me to put her name on the sheet.  She won twice and bot wins I had put her name on.  She gave me 10 bucks for picking the spots!! The end of the game was so stressful for me to watch!  I knew the Giants were going to win, but I also knew Tom Brady is not afraid to run a hellmary!  I'm just glad Giants won in the end!!

Ted Talk 7

Diana Nyad did the talk. It was called Extreme swimming with the world's most dangerous jellyfish.  The talk was about how she had aspired to swim from Florida to Cuba and she trained and trained and when it finally came to the swim, she was stung by box jellyfish 15hours into the swim.  She kept swimming through the first stings but about 40 hours into the swim she got stung again.  This time she had to stop and get help.  The jellyfish wrap their tentacles around her and send venom into her central nervous system, then you get extremely hot, and then you start getting paralysis starting from your back.  She didn't end up making it but her point was that life has many disappointments but we can't let them get us down or make us give up on our dreams.  She said that one day, she will swim from Florida to Cuba one day!  My impression of Diana was she was a very determinated women.  After all that pain she had went through being stung by the ocean's most venomous creature, and she still wants to complete her swim.  I believe she will and she has high and realistic aspirations!

The Role of Media in Our Society

Media has a huge role in our society.  Many people base their lives and get advise based on their favorite movies.  For example, many girls picture their dates to be like the ones you see on t.v.  They are looking for the whole 9 yards and if its not like what they pictured they're a little disappointed.  Also, people base their success by what they see on t.v.  If Jerry McGuire was a successful sports agent and did it so easily, then so can I!  Also, Jared from subway gave people the idea that if they eat subway, they will lose weight just like he did.  I'm pretty sure Jared didn't just eat subway, I'm thinking there was some working out involved with that.

My Business Card

Day Off

On ourday off yesterday, me, my sister, and my friend Jessee hung out all day!  Well, not all day.  From the time I woke up, (about7AM!!), until 11:15, (when Jessee picked us up), me and my sister were deep cleaning my house.  We got done pretty quickly and then were able to get ready for our day out with Jessee.  We wanted to all get lunch together, so we decided Olive Garden would be good!  We were there for about an hour and I think we all ate more than we could!  After Olive Garden we wanted to go somewhere but we didn't know where to go.  So, we stopped by Toys R' Us then went to Sport's Authority.  After we were going to go to Dick's but we decided the 99cent store was the place to be! We all went in and then my sister and Jessee decided they were going to buy my 1/2 birthday gifts so they made me sit in the car for 15-20 minutes all by myself in the heat!  I was glad I bought a coloring book because it payed off!  After we went home and got ready for Mr.DV.  It was the funniest thing ever!  I was glad Jaques won, I was definitely going for him!  Finally it was off to my house where I crashed!

The most important thing

The most important thing to me right now are my grades and softball.  My grades are my biggest priority.  I have to maintain all A's and B's and try to stay in the top 10% of my class.  This will make it easier to get accepted to college where I can start on my way to become anything I want to be.  Softball is a huge thing in my life.  If I'm not doing homework or at school I'm playing softball!  I'm really hoping to get a scholarship for athletics.  These are the most important things in my life right now!

Ted Talk 6

Sarah Kay did the talk.  It was called "If I Should Have a Daughter".  It was about how she began learning spoken poetry and how easy it is for people to do it.  There are three steps into becoming a spoken poet the first is I can, The second is I will, and the third is keep progressing and moving forward.  Her and her friend, Phil Kay, have a group called Project Voice which was first just a way to get her friends involved in it, but now it has been redefined and travels to different schools and communities teaching people using spoken word poetry.
